“That would make sense… When you were little, you had really long hair as well—”
Carth’s hands moved slightly slower as he heard Jun speak, but the way the little dragoness spoke raised a little bit of suspicion. Well, yes, Astella did have ears sticking out of her head in that baby picture they discovered in the wagon’s hidden compartment, but Jun was reminiscing to a simpler time… a time that might hold some answers as to why Astella suddenly went without dog ears and a tail for so many years. Astella was the first individual Carth had encountered who looked mostly human but showed animal traits, so it would take some getting use to since he kept forgetting about them or would stare at them curiously.
“Quite adorable with your ears and tail I must admit.”
Yeah, Jun knew a lot more about Astella than Astella herself seemed to know as Carth looked to her face as she turned it slightly to look up at the dragon, and by the expression on her face and the way her ears moved, the woman was confused. Carth glanced up at Jun as he momentarily slowed his hands, but once the small creature turned her head away shyly Carth continued to resume the braid. Jun knew something. The man’s anger was steadily declining with help from Astella’s comfort and the unseen communication between their auras, but now this anger was starting to focus and turn itself into curiosity over Astella’s past before he blinked sharply to snap himself out of it. Well, he did notice a really, really big change in Astella’s mentality since they woke up in this hidden oasis, and that was with her fear of blood. When he noticed his face was bleeding because of Pol, he tried covering it up to keep it out of her sight since before, she would get so pale at the sight of blood she would almost, or completely, faint. Moments ago she just moved his arm and looked at it like it was nothing new and that she was completely used to it. She didn’t go pale or become woozy or even tremble, she just took him to the wagon and cleaned him up. Although he was almost at a blinding level of rage, he did did pick up on it and it made him incredibly curious. However it was Astella’s life so she may want to discover some secrets on her own, and it would be her own choice to share it with him.
Although he was kinda hoping she would because he was just as interested… however that would mean he would have to share his own history and he would rather tell no one but himself.
Once he was done with the braid and tossed it over Astella’s shoulder for her inspection, her breathless comment made him rub the bridge of his nose shyly, especially when she looked over her shoulder at him with those sparkling green eyes. Carth then moved back slightly as she quickly started to shift around, and before he knew it, she reached up and brought him close with a warm embrace. Automatically, Carth had no hesitation in hugging her back as he wrapped his arms around her middle and pulled her close. The loud thumping of her wagging tail caused him to grin widely as he looked back and watched just how much it was moving around.
“I love it.”
“You’re welcome,” he said warmly as he rested his chin on her shoulder and soothingly rubbed her back. He still felt a little irritated because of earlier, and it was continuing to shock, maybe worry the man as to why he was calming down so fast. Usually he’d still be stomping around and throwing a fit, but yet he was calming down as if he was injected with something. Astella really was some kind of miracle worker, that’s for sure. Her calming natural scent assisted by her joyful hug caused him to sigh heavily in relaxation, a happier mood enveloping his mind. The hug alone did so much for him, and he was very grateful for it as he gave a little extra squeeze before relaxing his arms around her again, taking comfort for holding someone so close. As she wasn’t letting go, he relaxed against her and closed his eyes, occasionally and slowly rubbing her back soothingly. Carth was starting to feel so calm he might end up falling asleep against her at some point, especially when she started to slowly stop wagging her tail and lean more against him to where their exposed bellies were touching gently whenever the other breathed.
Carth’s nose was flicked by Astella’s suddenly perking ears, causing him to flinch in surprise since it caught him unaware. The two quickly looked up t Jun to see that wide, tiny toothed smile beaming down at them before the little imp seemed to turn around with graceful sass, giggle, and glide out of sight. The man honestly thought Jun was going to leave after Astella stared at her the first time.
“Heh… she has a point…”
“Yeahhhh,” Carth agreed, but with a bit of a whine since he didn’t want to admit it. The sun sets slowly so they still had some time, however they needed to get in and out of Maza before something bad happened. His emotions felt a little dull because of his anger from earlier, but he could still cast a warm smile when Astella turned to him once more and thanked him. With lowered eyelids and a wide grin, Carth moved in to place a soft kiss on her lips before pulling back. “You’re welcome,” he chuckled gently, his heart suddenly swelling with positivity as his own aura became influenced by her own. She could notice that he wasn’t as animated, but it was a massive change compared to what he was ten minutes ago. “And thank you for helping me back there,” he added before tightly hugging and then relaxing, “I don’t know what it is, but you really helped me calm down.”
After another few moments of holding her, he then lowered his arms more around her waist and squeezed to pick her up off the back of the wagon, holding her up a little higher. He still couldn’t get over how light she was—it was like holding a small child. He then lightly spun her around a few degrees and set her down on her feet. “Alright, I’m going to wash up really quick and then I’ll come back, change into the suit, and then we’ll leave.” With a quick kiss on her forehead and lightly hitting her in the face with her own ponytail, and turned to walk towards the water. He waded in until he dove under, spent some time scrubbing himself (while making sure his pants stayed on) and after a few short minutes he returned, dripping wet, and hopped into the back of the wagon to change. Once done, he hopped back out, clasped on his cape, and walked around the corner to where Agrippa stood. “Alright boy, we’re going to start heading out now,” he said soothingly as he moved to the other side of the wagon to look for astella before looking down at their campfire as he noticed a little black bag. “Oh shit,” he muttered as he quickly scooped up the bag, wiped the sand off, and checked inside to see that his necklace was still inside of it. His heartbeat quickened a bit at realizing he had almost forgotten the necklace, and to make sure he didn’t do it again, he put the necklace on and walked back over to Agrippa to tuck the black bag away in the saddle. He then untied the stallion, hopped up on his back, and turned the horse around to face the entrance while also holding Agrippa back as he started to take a few steps forward. He was really excited to finally be going somewhere. “Ready to go, Astella?” he called out as he looked back towards the wagon.
((OOC: omfg I think Carth had been wearing his suit the entire time... but I forget and just hjksgs. It's been a while. xD ))
