Carth gave a smirk of approval after Jun’s mumbled acceptance moved past her lips. The man then let go of her muzzle before giving her head a few pats, turning to Agrippa as the horse nudged him to look at Jun, his nostrils flaring. “You gave him a treat, didn’t you?” Carth chuckled as he wrapped an arm around Agrippa’s snout and started to walk forward, forcing the horse to start backing up since he couldn’t free his tucked in head. With a few rough pats and then a slap on the rear, Agrippa darted off with an excited whinny across the sands, his attitude and everything very elated as he huffed and stomped around. “How many sugar cubes did you give him?” Carth asked Jun before turning his head around as he saw Astella scamper around to gather the supplies needed for the stew. It would take some time for the water to get to a boil, but yet she was very excited to start getting everything ready.
Astella’s tail was wagging a mile a minute.
It still greatly interested him that her hidden powers had revealed these extra extremities, literally allowing the human tailbone to become a really long tail and turning her human ears into larger, canine looking ears that were a little higher on her head and had a strange yellow trim to them. The marking under her eye was something strange too as when he was holding Astella in the oasis, the marking on her face glowed for a moment unlike the bright area on her chest which pulsated with light for most of the night during her fever. There was so much about her that he wanted to ask, realizing that these awakened powers had also revived some old memories she had previously forgotten. Such as her last name, as when he first met her she couldn’t even recall it. Now she’s talking about a great family bloodline of hers, the Fantomfeings, who hailed from Momoka, and that her parents had come across the sands to do battle with Maza. Carth knew of a battle from Maza, but nothing more since at the time, learning that past information wasn’t very important to him. An odd sadness had also blanketed her face once in a while when he saw her alone and thinking to herself, something he didn’t think he really saw that much when he first met her. Now, however, she was nothing but bright smiles, and as she moved around, her tail just wouldn’t stop moving, her ears perked forward attentively as she worked.
Carth gently bit his bottom lip as a shiver of excitement fluttered strongly within his chest before walking away, moving around the other side to Agrippa’s saddle that he still had lying in the sands. Out of Jun and Astella’s sight, Carth grinned so widely with his eyes falling shut a moment, but when he opened them back up he was a foot away from bumping into Pol as the grumpy old unicorn stood in the shrinking shade as the sun rose higher. “Whoops, pardon me, Pol,” Carth smiled as he just ducked under the horse’s head and moved to Agrippa’s saddle, his energy vibrating with excitement Pol could possibly pick up, but visually it was all over. The spring in his step, the dreamy eyed look that made it look like he wasn’t paying any attention to anything… it was a completely different man from this morning. It looked like Astella’s magic really had gotten both the hangover and the alcoholic feeling that Carth could have sworn was still blanketing his mind. Whistling quietly to himself, Carth unclipped the bags from their hooks on the saddle and then searched through one of them to grab a hard brush used to clean the saddle. He at least wanted it nice enough to ride on again without smelling too bad, and with how he was thinking, he and possibly Astella would have to share the saddle once they moved everyone closer to Maza. A vague thought for now as Carth’s head was too high in the clouds to really think straight.
He carried the blanket and saddle over to the water’s edge and sat down, beginning to roughly scrub at the blanket to get all the sand and horse hair off of it. He did it on the far side of the oasis so they didn’t have to worry too much about getting a drink and getting horse hair between their teeth. It took Carth some time to really clean everything, looking across the large pond once in a while to see Astella on the other side as she fed the fire to make it larger in order to boil the water she had recently retrieved. Agrippa had visited Astella as she worked, sniffing towards the cabbages she was cutting up, but stopped moving towards her when the horse saw the woman wrap the food back up into a blanket to keep the sand out of them. The horse then traveled around the lake to Carth, wading into the water to lay down on his side where he began to roll and splash his legs, Carth laughing as he splashed a handful of water at the animal.
Eventually, the sun was slowly passing into the later afternoon hours when Carth stopped his scrubbing and carried the wet saddle over to the wagon, hanging them over the short rails that stuck out the front of the wagon where the draft animal would stand between. With how incredibly hot it was getting, the blanket and saddle would be dry in no time. He then walked over to his bags to move them under the wagon when he suddenly remembered something, opening up a bag to reach inside and pull out a much smaller, and very worn, black cloth bag. It had a gold string laced in and out of the fabric around the top to draw the bag open and closed, but even that looked a bit old and frayed. Tucking the other bags out from under the sun, and setting his wet brush beside to dry, Carth walked around the wagon towards the fire Astella had going very nicely, he noticed Astella take a small glance towards him, also reassuring him that she did as one of her ears twitched in his direction. He walked up behind her and carefully, used his big toe to lightly pin down the tip of fur on Astella’s tail down into the sands. As she would then look back, Carth leaned over her and presented the black bag. “You forgot to remind me to show you this,” he smiled as he craned over her, lowering the bag into her hands before he moved beside her and sat down rather close. Like, the entire sides of their thighs were touching, and all Astella could feel was possibly the wet fabric of his pants since he had been sitting in the water again to clean the saddle. “Careful of the strings, I’ve had this thing since I was eight.”
As Astella would open the bag, inside was a beaded necklace on a black string. There were three long oval beads with the center one having blue edges, and on either side of the middle one were shiny silver beads that really seemed to catch the light. On either side of the necklace was a very large shark tooth, but the once sharp edges were slightly worn down from someone in the past dulling it do it didn’t cut its wearer. Age was also apparent as the string indicated constant wear, but more then likely it was probably a newer string by a few years. “These are the teeth from that shark my sister and I found,” Carth said, reaching a hand out to take hold of one of the teeth, whether she still had it in her palm or was dangling it in front of her, and turned the tooth slightly to show Astella. “You can find shark teeth everywhere on the beaches up there, but my sister and I found these special as our first ‘brave’ adventure.” Carth’s eyelids lowered a bit as he thought of that time, a soft, memorable smile on his face before he pulled his eyes away to look at Astella and back to the necklace. “Sharks have a couple rows of teeth, one in front of the other, so we decided to reach far into the fish’s mouth and pull out a tooth. I vaguely remember much about it, but I still can remember how scared I was that the fish would come to life and bite off my hand.”
While speaking, Carth took a glance towards Astella, his one hand creeping towards her free hand and gently touched it, his fingers ever so softly moving across her skin before he ducked his fingers into her palm and eventually intertwine his fingers with her own. The more intimate physical contact caused a more powerful stir of activity as his aura continued to dance with Astella’s, intertwining and weaving in and out of her essence. It held hers and cradled hers with the natural protective perception that was always there no matter what other emotion seemed to flow through it. The feeling was also something much deeper as other emotions secretly flowed and caressed against Astella, feelings of affectionate need and that hint of lust that seemed to grow ever stronger because of Astella’s wild imagination. This caused the male’s heart to beat ever faster as he tightened his hand around Astella’s as he looked to the necklace. “It’s pretty much the last thing of value I have on me, and the only thing I have of my sister’s. I wear this nearly every day, but it put it away in my bags since I didn’t want the old string to break and have me wind up losing the pieces on the way to here. My sister had a matching one, but her beads were green with this one having dark green edges and gold trim,” he said, pointing to the center bead. He then chuckled. “She wanted them to remind her of me if we ever had to split apart for some reason. I now keep these to remember her. She just picked red because she use to looooove that color.” He chuckled lightly before turning to look to Astella, his other hand instinctively reaching out and tucking some of Astella’s wind blown hair away from her face, the side of his fingers lightly trailing down the side of her neck as his breath hitched in his throat.
Gods he almost forgot what he was just talking about. Now he felt like he was talking just for the sake of talking, something to just fill in the quiet gap he knew would be there between the two if he didn’t say anything. His heart was now beating so loud and so fast that it was distracting him, his lips parting as if he wanted to say some more about the necklace before they closed back shut. His face then looked down to her wagging tail as he smiled, reaching his hand away from her face as he gently stroked it, eyes flickering up to look at her to see her reaction. Upon seeing her calm, he continued to stroke along her tail, fingers gently passing through the silky strands of black hair. “You know,” he said, his voice cracking a moment before he swallowed hard and cleared his throat, turning his face back up to Astella, unintentionally leaning a little closer. “You’ve got me a bit curious on what else you think about me,” his voice purred, eyes momentarily glancing down at her lips before back up in her deep emerald eyes, noticing the blush that heavily covered her smooth skin. “Is there anything else you’d like to tell me?” His eyelids lowered considerably, his dry tongue trying to discreetly lick around his dry lips as his breathing nearly stopped as he thought of what to say next before a wide smile curled his lips, exposing his teeth. "Or do?"
He had no idea why he loved playing games with her this much, but he was curious to see just what she would do. Hopefully she wouldn't faint or this would be even more awkward, but she just made him so happy and excited that he couldn't help but press on, as gently as possible, for more solid answers.
((OOC: Carth's all "blah-blah story that I was interested in telling before I kept staring into your eyes and literally forgot where I was going with all this" ))
